4 Ways You Can Reduce High Blood Pressure
Most people who have high blood pressure have no idea that they have it. We bring you the bottom line on the silent symptoms of high blood pressure. Hi, I'm Pilar Gerasimo with a Bottom Line Expert report on high blood pressure. I'm here today with Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum. She is the director of Women's Heart Health at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. Dr. Suzanne, let's get right into it. What are the symptoms, if any, of high blood pressure You know about six million Americans are living with high blood pressure, and it's called.
The silent killer because you can't exactly tell that you have itsometimes there are no symptoms. On the other hand, some people can develop symptoms like headaches, blurring of vision, shortness of breath, even chest pain. So if you have any of these symptoms, please go see your doctor, because the silent killer is actually just that. It could be a killer. Aside from obvious things like excess weight or obesity, what are the primary risk factors for high blood pressure When it's not due to family history or a hereditary problem or an issue with the kidneys, you.
Have to look at the lifestyle issues again. Alcoholexcess of alcohol or binge drinking can lead to high blood pressure. Also look at your diet. Too much saltit is actually a risk factor for hypertension. And if you're not exercisingsedentary lifestyleor if you have diabetes. All of the things that lead to the stiffening of the arteries are the risk factors. Your diet, your exercise, even stress. Diabetes, smoking, high cholesterol.all of these things can lead to high blood pressure. Is high blood pressure treatable without medication You mentioned a lot of lifestyle factors.
If it's not due to a primary issue, as I mentionedlike the kidney or an adrenal issuethen it's truly about lifestyle. It is truly about the choices you make with diet and exercise and how you live your life. I would say watch your alcohol, don't smoke and really watch what you eat, how you move, and how you choose to live. The bottom line on blood pressure is that unless you're dealing with a specific medical condition like the ones Dr. Steinbaum mentioned, most of the interventions that are going to.

Slimming World Young Slimmer of the Year 2010
Well, when I first started Slimming World, I weighed 23 and a half stone. I was a dress size 26, I didn't feel. I didn't feel young. I felt I was overweight, I felt unhealthy. I was bullied quite a lot, I had this kind of burden of always being known as the big one, and that really affected me. By the time I left secondary school I weighed over 18 stone, and then by the time I went to uni, I was up to 23 and a half. Going to uni was the biggest challenge for me and also the biggest life change for me,.
Because it totally caused me to change my lifestyle. I was suddenly living on my own, I didn't have those certain people protecting me, I didn't have my mum wasn't cooking for me all the time. I was, I had to do those things myself. My friend Emily she had started going to Slimming World and, I don't know what it was, I think it was because I was at that low point, but when she was like 'Oh, do you want to come', I was like, 'Yeah, I do.'.
It was just something just suddenly clicked in me. I went with her the first night, and I've never stopped going. It feels amazing to be Slimming World's Young Slimmer of the Year 2010. It's mindblowing. I feel like a totally new person. I only started Slimming World 21 months ago, but when I stepped through that door, it was such a welcoming environment, I mean, I had everyone was so friendly. They wanted to get to know you. Sally was amazing. She straight away, made sure she went over things with you,.
She went over the plans, it was uncomplicated, it just seemed like there were so many advantages to it, and I was being encouraged to eat so much which was good because I have such a big appetite. My favourite dish that I make is bacon chicken pasta with peppers and red onions and stirfried vegetables. And it's just, like, delicious food, and even my mum came in from work one day and was like, 'Oh, what's that gorgeous smell', and I was like, 'It's my dinner, I'm cooking it, you should try it, it's really like fresh really.
And really delicious', she was quite surprised by it because normally diets, you think you're going to live on kind of crackerbread and stuff like that. It's taken me 21 months to lose 10 and a half stone. The way Sally explained how you could break it down, it was like, don't think about don't think about the overall goal, think about next week think about what you want to achieve by next week. I lost 5 or 5 and a half pounds in my first week. When I thought, actually I'm only 2 pounds away from my halfstone sticker,.
And stickers are really good as well, I like you need that little reward, it kind of spurs you on, it motivates you it's small targets make it seem more manageable don't think about what you want to lose by the end of it, think about what you're losing next week. I bought a bike, me and my boyfriend, we go on bike rides all the time, on like Sundays and things like that. When I'm living in Canterbury, I never get a bus, I walk everywhere so it's just those little extra things.
Is it Bad if My Veins are Sticking Out
Is it bad if my veins are sticking out Yeah, it does start to look really scary. I don't care how it looks. I worry what it means. One possibility is that you are severely dehydrated. Do you drink a lot I have the occasional beer or glass of wine. I mean, are you drinking a lot of water or soda without caffeine that actually hydrates you Your veins sticking out could be a sign of dehydration. I think I'm hydrated. If you were older, I'd say that was the start of varicose veins.
That's not good. I always thought bulging veins were a good thing. If you were a body builder and had so little body fat that they'd pop out under pressure, maybe. So I'm either getting old or too thin. Well, it is hard to be too thin. Varicose veins can also occur in younger women after childbirth. They'll decrease in appearance after the blood pressure and volume goes back to normal. That might be the only thing about her body that goes back to normal after having a baby. If you aren't getting old or so thin that the veins pop out, I'd suggest getting your.
Blood pressure and hydration levels checked. I could drink some water. If you are dehydrated to that point, you need to drink a lot of water. And cut back on the energy drinks and coffee, since that actually dehydrates you. I would think that more liquids would bloat the veins even more. Not if the bulging is due to a backup of liquids. Then again, you could try laying on the floor so your feet are higher than your head to help drain the lymphatic system. That's something you do when you have blood pressure problems, or when you are dizzy.
What Happens When You Leave Your Tampon In Too Long
Tampons are great! They let you frolic on the beach in a tiny bikini smiling with your friends! At least, that's what the commercials say. In reality, they come with the very serious risk of toxic shock syndrome. Hey guys and gals, Amy with you on DNews today talking about an unfun aspect of already not so fun periods. Menstrual cycles obviously aren't new, and neither are tampons. Ancient Egyptians made disposable tampons from softened papyrus while Ancient Greeks wrapped lint around a small piece of wood. Other cultures over time used wool, paper, vegetable fibers, sponges, grass,.
And, eventually, cotton. The modern tampon with an applicator was debuted in the 1930s, but tampon in the United States use didn't really kick off until the 1970s. An initial trial phase saw the product very well received, and by 1979, tampons were nationally marketed in this country. Almost immediately, the health risks became apparent. Tampons are, interestingly, classified as a medical device because they alter the biological functionality of the body. They are masses of cotton or synthetic material inserted into the vagina to absorb menstrual blood. But problems can come with having something absorbent.
Hanging out inside you. This is where toxic shock comes in. It's still not perfectly understood, but researchers have some idea of how this rare disease is contracted. Our bodies have tons of bacteria crawling around inside, and vaginas are no exception. The staphylococcus bacteria commonly called Staph is normally and harmlessly present in the vagina. Tampons can give that bacteria a breeding ground and entryway into the blood stream. It's possible that inserting and removing a tampon can lead to micro tears in the vaginal wall. Once that tampon is in place, it absorbs all fluids, not only menstrual blood but also.
The natural lubricant in the vagina leaving it dry and more likely to these micro tears. And that saturated tampon becomes an incredibly supportive environment for the rapid growth of bacteria. It's possible that this toxic bacteria can enter the bloodstream through those micro tears to go deeper into the body. This can lead to a high fever and low blood pressure that in turn can deprive organs of oxygen to the point that they shut down. Toxic shock became headline news in 1980. Of 55 cases of rare toxic shock syndrome that.
Year, 95 percent were in menstruating women. The common factor was Proctor and Gamble's Rely tampon, a super absorbent one designed to cater to market demand for a product that could be left in place longer. The subsequent lawsuit ultimately found PG guilty of negligence and the product was pulled. But tampons are still around, as we know, and though it's an exceedingly rare disease women are still getting toxic shock syndrome, many victims citing a lack of clear warning on any packaging as the root cause. In 2012, 24yearold Lauren Wasser lost her leg after.
Toxic shock led to gangrene. But toxic shock isn't limited to menstruating women. Men, children, and nonmenstruating women are susceptible to it as well. Tampons just increase the risk. So what can you do to avoid toxic shock The easiest way is to not use tampons at all. But if you do, switch it up with a pad now and then, use the lowest absorbency you can get away with, and never leave a tampon in for more than eight hours. Ladies, does learning more about toxic shock change the way you feel about tampons.
